The Oklahoma Municipal Assurance Group recently recognized the City of Sallisaw and its Board of City Commissioners for their participation in the OMAG Recognition Program.

The Recognition Program is a new initiative that provides elected officials with the training and tools needed to excel in their governing role.   As a reward for the City’s participation, OMAG presented a check for $10,000 to the City.  This payment may be used for any city program or purchase the city chooses.

The requirements of the program include:

  • Each city commissioner must attend OMAG approved training, either in person or by distance learning.
  • The governing body must adopt a new or update their governing body handbook.
  • The governing body must complete a city stability test to audit its performance.
  • The governing body must review the OMAG insurance declarations page and explanation of benefits.

The City of Sallisaw is very appreciative of this recognition.  The adoption of the City Council Handbook is an accomplishment that all of us are proud of.
