[ARCHIVED] Purchases Approved at August 8 Council Meeting Saves City Over $175,000

Recent purchases presented by city staff and approved by the City Council resulted in savings of over $175,000.

The purchase of a 2007 clean, low mileage/low hours digger derrick from Altec Industries of Birmingham, AL was approved for the electric department. The purchase amount was $69,900. These units can cost as much as $190,000 new. Staff was able to find this unit and purchase it at a savings of $120,000.

The purchase of a new 2016 Freightliner 10-wheel dump truck from Premier Truck Group of Tulsa, OK was approved for the street department. This unit was special ordered from Premier Truck by another customer and normally would cost around $168,000. The original customer was unable to purchase the unit. The City was able to purchase this unit at the greatly reduced price of $112,000, a savings of over $56,000.
