The City of Sallisaw has been awarded a grant to purchase and install three new weather warning sirens in the community.
Grant funding of $40,000 has been obtained through the Oklahoma Office of Emergency Management. The City has prepared a bid document for the siren units and plan on opening bids at the May 14 Board of City Commissioners meeting. If all goes well, installation of the sirens may begin in July or August of 2012.
The three new siren units will replace five older units currently in use by the city. The three new units will have a larger coverage area than the existing five. The sirens being replaced will then be refurbished and relocated along the edge of the city limits to extend our coverage areas.
