1. Why does the City of Sallisaw trim trees?

We trim trees to keep limbs out of power lines. During storms, ice events or high winds, tree limbs can fall on power lines creating outages for our customers. Depending on the size of the trees, a falling tree or its limbs can cause significant damage to lines. What could be a simple power outage can become a major event if lines are taken down by falling trees or limbs.

2. How do you decide which trees are trimmed?

Any tree that is in public easements, or are touching power lines, are subject to being trimmed. The object is keep limbs from the power lines as long as possible.

3. How often do you trim trees in an area?

Typically trees are trimmed in 3 year cycles.
